How £60m Man Utd player’s former club reacted to Old Trafford interest just says it all

Manchester United have had some expensive deals go wrong, but one is said to have made the other club involved overjoyed.

Over the past decade, transfer decisions at Old Trafford were being managed by people who had practically zero expertise.

Ed Woodward and Richard Arnold are the two main culprits who are responsible for wasting hundreds of millions on overpriced and downright bad signings.

Antony, Casemiro, Harry Maguire, Fred, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Jadon Sancho are the main deals which spring to mind.

We hope that this period is over now with Ineos in charge.

But, now a journalist has described how one club felt and reacted when they learned Manchester United were after one of their players, and it says it all…

How Real Madrid reacted to Manchester United’s interest in Casemiro

One of the worst decisions the former recruitment decision-makers made was to sign Casemiro for the money they did (£60m), along with handing him huge wages.

Now, ESPN journalist Rodrigo Faez – speaking with mufcMPB – has explained exactly how Real Madrid felt when United came calling.

“When Manchester United came to Real Madrid to sign Casemiro, I remember talking to one of the members of Real Madrid’s board, and he told me ‘please, please I hope Man United buy Casemiro as soon as possible, they are CRAZY about the money… they are going to offer €70m!’ They hoped United would come again with this money for another player.”

This reaction to the Casemiro move just goes to show how awful the recruitment has been at Old Trafford in recent years, the clubs we are buying from are effectively laughing behind our backs.

This shows just how important Dan Ashworth could be

Upon arriving at United, Ineos first and foremost targeted a revamp of the club’s footballing structure, and it was absolutely the correct decision.

Even the most out-of-touch football fan could tell you about the failings of Old Trafford in recruitment, it’s probably the biggest problem.

With Jason Wilcox said to be arriving, along with Omar Berrada who has already arrived and negotiations ongoing over Dan Ashworth, Ineos are taking it seriously.

It’ll make the £20m Ashworth fee and whatever compensation is agreed for the other two absolutely worth it, they could even pay off in their opening transfer window.
