Hojlund vs Sesko: star strikes first blow in this season’s scoring contest, it could leave Amorim red faced

Manchester United had three players in World Cup qualifier action for their countries tonight.

Patrick Dorgu and Rasmus Hojlund

All eyes are on Rasmus Hojlund following his deadline day loan move to Napoli, and the 22-year-old gave his doubters something to think about as Denmark beat Greece 3-0.

Hojlund came off the bench with a little under half an hour left to play and scored his side’s third goal.

The striker didn’t get a single competitive minute for United this season and is yet to feature for Napoli, but will be boosted by finding the net for his country.

Patrick Dorgu, who was substituted on at the same time as Hojlund, had a crucial role in the goal as his shot from distance hit the post, allowing the forward to tap in from close range.

Aside from the goal, however, Hojlund was barely involved. The 22-year-old attempted only four passes, finding his man with three of them.

No player on the pitch had fewer touches than his six, including Albert Gronbaek who was brought on in the 90th minute.

Dorgu, playing on the right flank, had 100% pass rate from seven passes. He got stuck in, winning four of seven ground duels and the only aerial duel he contested.

Benjamin Sesko

Hojlund’s replacement Benjamin Sesko, meanwhile, played the full 90 minutes for Slovenia but was on the end of a 3-0 defeat to Switzerland.

His side were well-beaten and the towering 22-year-old took their only shot on target, and contributed two key passes – the most of anyone on his team.

He imposed himself well, winning both of the aerial duels he contested, and won one of three attempted ground duels. Only two Slovenia players made more clearances than the striker’s three, but he lost possession seven times and recorded only 58% pass accuracy.
