Hojlund out of his depth once more, but this liability should never play for United again

Manchester United were held to a 2-2 draw by Lyon in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie. Here are our player ratings from the game.

(A score of 6 is around average)

Andre Onana 1 – At fault for Lyon’s opener. All bark before the match, but not a bite in sight on the pitch. Another catastrophic howler right at the end that cost United a victory. Not fit to wear the shirt.

Noussair Mazraoui 6 – Some good defensive contributions, the highlight of which was an important last-man intervention to deny Lyon from breaking through on goal. Georges Mikautadze gave him a few problems in the second half but he held his own.

Harry Maguire 5 – Mostly decent, although he had a shaky moment in the first half when his poor touch sparked a Lyon attack.

Leny Yoro 9 – Solid. Barely put a foot wrong and he was United’s best defender. Came up with a magic moment just before the break when he headed in home to restore parity.

Diogo Dalot 6 – A good performance. Did well at the back and combined well with Garnacho for a chance. Seems to finally be growing into the wing-back role, but he was booked for a reckless foul on Nicolas Tagliafico.

Manuel Ugarte 4 – It was his long-range effort that was turned in by Yoro. Made a number of poor passes and showed again his limitations in possession. Didn’t offer nearly enough on the ball.

Casemiro 5 – Slightly better than Ugarte. Kept things simple and looked to pass forward when the opportunity presented itself.

Patrick Dorgu 5 – Struggled against Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who had the beating of him time and time again. However, he still bombed forward at every possible chance and on one occasion, delivered a sumptuous cross that Garnacho should have definitely converted.

Alejandro Garnacho 3 – Another difficult game for the Argentine. No conviction in most of his actions and basically shied away from everything. Killed a few promising attacks and should have done better with Dorgu’s excellent ball.

Bruno Fernandes 8 – He was trying to make things happen but most of his teammates weren’t on the same frequency as him. Nearly got on the score sheet with a brilliant effort but he aimed it over the bar. Delivered an exquisite ball that Zirkzee converted to put the Red Devils ahead.

Rasmus Hojlund 2 – Shambolic! Struggled to hold up the ball, passing was poor and fluffed his lines when Dorgu put it up for him on a silver platter. Can’t seem to get anything right at the moment.

Substitutes

Joshua Zirkzee 8.5 – Classy headed finish to temporarily put United in the driving seat. Should be starting ahead of Hojlund going forward.

Mason Mount 6- Showed fight and desire when he came on. Injected plenty of energy into the side.

Kobbie Mainoo 5 – Nice to see him back on the pitch after a lengthy period on the sidelines.

Victor Lindelof 5 – Just OK. Didn’t really do much.
