High-ranking Barcelona chief outlines club’s “clear idea” on sealing permanent Rashford deal

Barcelona chief Deco has outlined the club’s true position on the permanent signing of Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford. Uncertain future Rashford has done well in Spain since sealing a season-long loan switch to the Blaugrana last summer. He was part of the infamous bomb squad under Ruben Amorim, whose presence in the dugout made the forward’s stay at Old Trafford untenable. There was plenty of interest in Rashford but he made it clear he was only keen on joining Barcelona. He got his dream move as the side swooped in for him. Rashford has managed four goals and eight assists in La Liga this season as Barcelona push to retain their La Liga crown. Across all competitions, the England international has plundered 10 goals and 13 assists. Hansi Flick has repeatedly declared his admiration for Rashford and there have been suggestions that the Blaugrana have already decided to take up the £26m option to keep him permanently. Rashford has made no secret of his desire to stay at the Camp Nou. More recently however, Barcelona president-elect Joan Laporta hinted that they could try to convince United to sanction another loan spell for the 28-year-old. Such an outcome would be a frustrating development for the Red Devils, who may have been banking on the financial boost from Rashford’s exit to fund their own plans. Sporting director Deco spoke to journalists on Sunday and clarified Barcelona’s stance on Rashford. Rashford transfer update Deco said [as quoted by GOAL], “Rashford staying? We have a clear idea regarding Rashford and we know what needed to be done for him to stay.” He added about the delay, “But the matter is tied to financial fair play, priorities, performance, and the coach’s decision.” “And it’s something we haven’t done yet because it’s not the right time.” Meanwhile, United return to action on Friday when they face Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. United lie in third place in the Premier League table, three points above Aston Villa after beating them on Sunday at Old Trafford. United’s goals were scored by Casemiro, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko.
