“He’s not willing…”: Ben Foster casts doubt on United loanee’s long-term future at current club

Former Manchester United keeper Ben Foster has cast doubt over Marcus Rashford staying long term at Aston Villa.

The United academy product fell out with Ruben Amorim in December and was consequently left out of the Manchester derby in December.

The 27-year-old forward would later not play a further minute at the club until he left on loan to Aston Villa in January.

The Villains have the option of buying Rashford for £40 million at the end of the season if they wish and it has been reported that the England international would be happy to join them.

Rashford has done reasonably well without being electric as he has scored three goals and provided four assists in 13 matches.

Nonetheless, former United keeper Foster has claimed on his podcast the Fozcast, “I don’t know if Rashford is going to be the answer.”

“When he came on in the Forest game the other day, they were 2-0 up at the time and I was thinking, ‘What would Rashford’s objectives be here?’”

Foster then also questioned Rashford’s commitment to doing the job that Villa boss Unai Emery would have asked of him.

“I think when Emery brought him on, he would’ve said, ‘right Marcus, we’re 2-0 up and Forest had some good chances in that first half. I’m going to need you to get hold of the ball for me. I’m going to need you to try and get it down and get us up the pitch’.”

“There were a couple of times where they went long to him, and he was not willing to stick his head up there. He’s not willing to get hurt physically and the ball just came back.”

Rashford also failed to impress last night as he started Villa’s Champions League quarter final against Paris Saint-Germain but was largely anonymous in their 3-1 defeat in Paris, leaving them with a mountain to climb in the second leg in Birmingham.

United themselves are looking to raise funds to bolster their squad this summer and will be relying heavily on Villa or someone else paying a sizeable fee for Rashford to generate cash to spend.
