Donny van de Beek has been told by Rio Ferdinand that he’s not going to play much for Man United.
On the whole, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United signings have been excellent. The Old Trafford club has added quality in many areas, though there’s much work ahead.
Perhaps the only disappointment was the move made for Donny van de Beek. Understandably, big things were expected of the midfielder, though those hopes fizzled out pretty quickly following some poor performances.
For the most part, Van de Beek has had to settle for his minutes off the substitutes bench and that has led to a loss of confidence.
After a strong pre-season, you felt like Donny would get his chances this campaign. However, he’s once again remained rooted to the bench. That begs the question, will he ever be good enough?
Well, Reds legend Rio Ferdinand doesn’t think so, stating that the struggling 24-year-old is not going to be playing games for United anytime soon…
Check out what Rio Ferdinand had to say on Van de Beek in full here:
” Donny van de Beek, he’s not going to get a chance in this team is he? £40million and he ain’t going to play,” Ferdinand told FIVE.
“Anyone coming in under Ole is an Ole signing. You give him the credit for the players who come in an do well, and you’ve got to take [criticism].
“I’m not one of those people who think every signing is going to be great. You are going to get them wrong, Fergie got them wrong.
“It’s inevitable when you sign so many players that you get one or two wrong.“
At this point, I just feel sorry for Donny. This is a guy who came to United as a highly regarded individual. Now, he just doesn’t look like a player with anything left in the tank.
Sometimes, transfers just don’t work out. Right now, this is giving off that sort of vibe and it’s just a massive shame.
Who knows, perhaps Van de Beek will turn it around. He seems intent on staying here at the Theatre of Dreams. Perhaps he’s been told a certain Frenchman is leaving next summer and he can have his spot?
Maybe he just needs a chance again? Heck, he can’t do any worse than Nemanja Matic and Fred did over the weekend, that’s for sure. Why not throw him in there against Wolverhampton Wanderers and see what he can do?
