“He’s a threat”: United midfielder picks out 17yo wonderkid’s two best traits which make him unplayable

Manchester United came back from a goal down to beat Hong Kong 3-1 in their final post-season friendly, at the Hong Kong Stadium on Friday.

All three goals arrived in the second 45 minutes with Chido Obi grabbing a brace while Ayden Heaven also got in on the act in added time.

It was another dull performance in the first 45 minutes, especially from Rasmus Hojlund, who was easily overshadowed by the 17-year-old in the second half.

And Mason Mount, who provided the assist for the wonderkid’s second of the evening, was quick to praise his young teammate while not forgetting to heap praise on the rest of the Carrington graduates.

Mount praises Chido Obi

The United No.7 explained Chido Obi’s strengths, pinpointing his movement off the ball inside the box and his good aerial ability as his strong suits.

“Chido is a very good player. I haven’t played with him loads but, obviously, you can see in training what he’s about, his good movement as a player,” he told local media (via the club website).

“As a 10, you want to try to give balls into the box for him to get on the end of. I saw him and he’s a threat with a ball in the air for a header on goal.

“That was my aim. But all the young kids who played today, I thought stepped up in difficult circumstances. They all performed really well so I’m really happy for them as well.”

It was not the best weather to play in and the pitch was soggy and the ball held up at times, but the Englishman did not complain and thanked the fans for coming out in huge numbers to cheer on the team.

Thanks the fans

“First and foremost, I just want to say a massive thank you to all the fans who have come out here today, it was amazing to see them all in Malaysia and now here in Hong Kong,” he said.

“The support has been brilliant. After the first game, we wanted to come here, win and put on a good performance, so that was the most important thing for us – perform for the fans.

“I enjoyed the second half, it was good to get out there and play. It wasn’t the easiest weather, but we love playing football, so it was good to be out there.”

The United players will now link up with their international teams while the rest will go on holiday before regrouping for pre-season in about a months’ time.
