Jack Wilshere has labelled Wayne Rooney as one of the best he’s ever played with.
Over the years, Old Trafford has played host to some of the finest players this game has ever seen. It’s a large reason why Manchester United remain amongst the greatest clubs within our sport.
It’s no surprise then, to hear ex-players speaking positively about these United legends from years gone by.
Wayne Rooney is used to being drowned him praise from how impressive he was during his playing career. Now, his ex-England teammate Jack Wilshere. has further heaped the compliments on Wazza.
When asked who was better between the United hero and Harry Kane, Wilshere opted for the former, adding ‘he was unplayable’ on his day. It’s hard to disagree.
Check out what Wilshere had to say here:
I played the majority of my England games with Rooney. I played a few with Harry, but that was when he just broke into the team, so I’m going to have to say Wazza. He was unplayable.” Wilshere told media, quoted by the MEN Live Blog.
“In training, he would pick the ball up, get angry and drive – not even dribble – drive past three or four players then smash it in.
Rooney could do it all. Sure, he started out as an out-and-out striker but as time wore on, was there any position that he didn’t play in? Winger, number ten, deep-lying midfield, this guy did it all.
On top of that, he still remains United and England top scorer. To hold such an accolade, you have to be considered amongst the best to ever do it.
Comparing Rooney to Kane feels a little foolish. The former won practically everything there was to win at club level. Kane is still trophy-less at age 28.
As Wilshere says, even in training Rooney was fighting for every loose ball and looking to impress everyone. I’m honestly not sure Kane has that fire in his belly, particularly judging by how he’s thrown in the towel at Tottenham Hotspur this season.
