Gunnar Guðlaugsson, CEO of Norðurál, has been hired to manage Century Aluminum’s smelters in Europe and North America. This is stated in an announcement from Norðurál.
Gunnar’s new job title is “Executive Vice President, Global Operations” and he will be responsible for the operation of smelters Century Aluminum worldwide.
In addition to Norðurál á Grundartaki, Century Aluminum owns and operates three smelters in North America and an anode plant in the Netherlands. The total annual production is over one million tonnes of aluminum.
Gunnar has worked for Norðurál since the year 2008. First as CEO of Norðurál Grundartangi and as CEO from the year 2019. He will continue to play that role.
Gauti Höskuldsson, who has been the Managing Director of Norðurál’s Skating Rink and Potroom, will also take on a new position at Century Aluminum as “Vice President, Global Operations” and work with Gunnar here at home and abroad. Gauti has worked for Norðurál since the year 1999 but has played the role of the manager of the ice rink and pottery hut from 2009.
Sigrún Helgadóttir has been appointed managing director of Norðurál Grundartangi and will oversee the day – to – day operations of the smelter. Sigrún has worked for Norðurál since the year 2012, in recent years as Managing Director of Personnel and Purchasing. Previously, Sigrún worked for Kaupthing, the Oslo Stock Exchange and the Iceland Stock Exchange.
Birna Björnsdóttir takes over the position of managing director of an ice rink and pottery hut. Birna started working for Norðurál this year 2005 and has held various positions within the company. In recent years she has worked as the head of production management.
