Cristiano Ronaldo will not be able to be the difference maker for Manchester United against the best opponents, claims former Liverpool manager Graeme Souness. Ronaldo has agreed to rejoin United 12 years after first leaving Old Trafford. The Portugal superstar will sign a two-year contract with the Red Devils after Manchester City ended their interest on Friday.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has described Ronaldo as the greatest player of all time.
But, at the age of 36, Souness has his doubts over how much success the forward will have in his second spell at the club.
The pundit said Ronaldo was unable to make the difference for Juventus in terms of winning the Champions League.
And he reckons that will be the case once he pulls on the United shirt again.

Souness told talkSPORT: “I have got a doubt about it. Juventus took him to win the Champions League, but he’s not going to be the difference in the big games.
“He’ll score goals, he will score goals, because he’s got a brain and he’s been so athletic throughout his career.
“But in the bigger games against the better centre-halves… imagine putting him against Virgil van Dijk!”
United legend Gary Neville played alongside Ronaldo throughout his first spell at the club.

And he is delighted with the news his former team-mate will be back.
“What they have done here bolstered their squad with a proven goalscorer, a club legend,” Neville told Sky Sports News.
“What it is going to do is give the club an incredible 12 months. You think about last season, fans not being in the stadium.
“But Manchester United fans are going to be absolutely rocking for the next six to 12 months because they are going to see one of their own come back and play in their stadium.

“And he will score goals and give them brilliant moments.”
Neville says there was no way United could allow Ronaldo to move to rivals City.
He added: “A little bit nostalgic and nostalgia doesn’t always work in football.
“It kicks you sometimes when you don’t expect it, but the idea of him going to Manchester City was torture for Manchester United fans.
“I said last week, if there is a big player available, Manchester United have to be in the market for that player.”
