Former Manchester United attacking midfielder Grace Clinton has revealed her motivation for crossing the divide to join Manchester City.
United confirm Clinton’s exit
Clinton’s future at United was the subject of speculation ahead of transfer deadline day, with City mentioned as an interested party in her signature. Marc Skinner moved to quell these rumours, insisting that the club had not informed him of any plans to offload Clinton.
However, a recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United and City had reached an agreement over a swap deal involving Clinton and Jess Park.
Park’s arrival at United has since been announced by United, who have also confirmed that Clinton has jumped ship.
A United statement read, “Manchester United can confirm that midfielder Grace Clinton has completed a permanent transfer to Manchester City.”
“Everyone at United would like to thank Grace for her service and wish her luck for the future.”
Clinton also posted a farewell message on Instagram, noting that her decision to exit United was because she the Reds could no longer provide her with the platform to develop.
Clinton reveals reason for United departure
Clinton wrote on Instagram, “Me and the club have taken the decision to part ways over the past few days.”
“To our supporters, from the day I signed as a teenager I was overwhelmed by your support for me and the team. You are an unbelievable fanbase and always our 12th player.”
“This has been a very difficult decision for me because of the love I have for my teammates and for you, the fans. However, I feel the future of the club and I aren’t on the same page.”
“For me personally, the next step is about growth, I want to continue to develop and learn.”
“Thank you for everything.”

Clinton’s revelation comes at a time when some fans are voicing concerns about where the women’s team stands in Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS’ priorities. Ratcliffe has openly prioritised the men’s team, a stance that inevitably pushes Skinner’s players further down the pecking order.
United kick off their WSL season on Sunday when they host Leicester City.
