Ghana have outlined their position on Manchester United defender Ayden Heaven ahead of their participation in the upcoming 2026 World Cup.
Heaven struggling for minutes this season
Heaven enjoyed a superb second half of the 2024/25 season with United, having joined the club from Arsenal during the January transfer window.
The youngster turned down several attempts by Arsenal to tie him down to a new contract, opting instead to seal a switch to the Red Devils.
Heaven didn’t take long to break into the first team under Ruben Amorim. The England youth international caught the eye with his calm and composed defences as part of the three-man defence. Despite being so young, he also didn’t seem to struggle with the pace and intensity of senior football.
The London-born footballer made six appearances for United across all competitions. His progress was hampered by an injury which kept him sidelined for weeks.
This term however, Heaven has struggled for minutes, with Amorim demonstrating a clear preference for the likes of Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro.
So far, Heaven has featured only twice for United, coming on late against Fulham in the Premier League and playing an hour in the Carabao Cup embarrassment against Grimsby Town.
There’s been no indication that he is dissatisfied with his current situation, though he likely hoped to push for a full breakthrough and perhaps earn a spot in England’s 2026 World Cup squad.
But, there could yet be hope for Heaven, who is also eligible to represent Ghana. Now, the West African nation’s stance on the United youngster has been revealed.
Ghana’s position on Heaven
According to journalist Owuraku Ampofo, Ghana have Heaven on their radar but would prefer for him to gain a little bit more first-team experience before making a concrete attempt to lure him.
Ampofo wrote for Flashscore, “The England-born defender, eligible for Ghana through his mother, has caught the FA’s attention, though the technical team believe he is still young and raw.”
“While there is definite interest, officials want him to gain senior experience before any major commitment is pursued.”
Meanwhile, Heaven and United are back in action on Saturday when they host Brighton and Hove Albion. Kick-off is at 5.30 pm.
