Axel Tuanzebe will prove that he’s good enough for Manchester United while out on loan at Aston Villa, according to former defender Gary Pallister.
Tuanzebe has come through the academy at Old Trafford and has a good reputation among fans and staff at the club, but was allowed to leave for a third loan spell at Aston Villa this summer following the arrival of Raphael Varane.
Behind all of Varane, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly and potentially Phil Jones too, the 23-year-old opted to head off for regular first-team football and has since started two of the first four Premier League games.
But asked whether or not Tuanzebe could have a long-term future with the club, the four-time Premier League winner has backed him to return to the club after his loan move having put any doubts behind him.
“He’ll prove it whilst out on loan, he’s someone that’s done well when he comes into the team,” Pallister told FreeSuperTips.
“The quality is so good at Manchester United that it’s difficult and it’ll be down to him whether he thinks he can get near the first team.
“There’s Lindelof and Bailly in the background, Phil Jones is still there, so he may feel as if he needs to go elsewhere.
“It’s difficult because he needs a run of games to prove he’s good enough for the first team and at this minute in time he’ll struggle to get the opportunity.”
It’s clear that Pallister thinks Tuanzebe should be kept on United’s books, however, and that it would be a mistake to let him go altogether.
He added: “In terms of his quality, I don’t think that would be an issue for him.”
