Manchester United feel they were denied a penalty when Gabriel dragged Rasmus Højlund down inside Arsenal’s penalty box. Man United were level at the 86th minute when Højlund was dragged down by Gabriel. Many claimed that the incident would have been a foul if it happened outside the penalty box. The clip showed how the Arsenal defender wrestled the Manchester United new signing down to the floor without making any contact on the ball. However, it was ruled out for offside, with many claiming the line was drawn from the wrong direction. Erik ten Hag was furious at the officiating and pointed out a couple of errors made by the match officials. The Dutchman believes Højlund could have won a penalty, Garnacho’s goal should have stood and Jonny Evans was fouled in the build up to Declan Rice’s goal. Erik ten Hag said after the game: “It was not an offside (for Garnacho’s goal). It was the wrong angle and there was a penalty on Hojlund and a foul on Evans (for Rice’s goal). “The performance was right. Everything went against us.”Manchester United may have gone on to lose the game 3-1 but the former Ajax manager believes United deserved all three points. Ten Hag to Dutch ViaPlay Sportnl: “The defeat doesn’t strike hard. “We took Arsenal out of their comfort zone for a big part of the game, defended well, counter-attacked well, never gave Arsenal the impression they could pressure us. We deserved to win, it just didn’t happen.” 2023-09-04
