Mason Greenwood has not been recalled to the England squad for their three upcoming fixtures but four other Manchester United players have, including Jesse Lingard.

England will be back in action for the first time since their heartbreaking Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy next week as they continue their qualifying campaign for next year’s World Cup.

The Three Lions already have three wins out of three so far and will be hoping to continue that good form when they take on Hungary, Andorra and Poland.

United trio Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Jadon Sancho have retained their spots in the squad from this summer’s tournament and Jesse Lingard has also been selected after he was cut from the provisional squad.

There were reports earlier this week that Greenwood was set to be recalled to the England set-up but that has not materialised.

The young forward hasn’t represented his country since he earned his first cap in September 2020 in a Nations League fixture against Iceland.

Greenwood was then sent home from the squad ahead of the following match against Denmark due to breaking Covid-19 rules along with Manchester City’s Phil Foden.

The teenager was named in the 33-man provisional squad ahead of Euro 2020 but withdrew before that number was cut to 26 in order to recover from an underlying injury that had been bothering him since March.

It proved to be a great decision as Greenwood has started the season in scintillating form, with two goals in United’s opening two games, but that hasn’t been enough to get back into Southgate’s side.

Marcus Rashford, who is still recovering from shoulder surgery, and Dean Henderson, who is yet to play this season after contracting Covid-19, have missed out on a place in the squad, as has Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

England will travel to face Hungary on Thursday, September 2 before returning to Wembley to welcome Andorra on Sunday, September 5. Their final match of the international break will be another away game, against Poland, on Wednesday, September 8.

The full England squad is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Johnstone, Pickford, Pope

Defenders: Alexander-Arnold, Coady James, Maguire, Mings, Shaw, Stones, Trippier, Walker

Midfielders: Bellingham, Henderson, Lingard, Mount, Phillips, Rice

Forwards: Bamford, Calvert-Lewin, Grealish, Kane, Saka, Sancho, Sterling
