Former “box-office” United boss emerges as a shock managerial target for fierce rivals – report

Ruben Amorim needs to get Manchester United back challenging for a Champions League spot next season after a torrid time this time around.

Fierce rivals Leeds United will pose a new challenge in the next campaign following their promotion from the Championship.

Last time out, the Red Devils, under the tutelage of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, enjoyed a fantastic track record against the Elland Road side, scoring six and five goals in two separate occasions.

In fact, the Old Trafford side did not lose a single game to their fierce rivals the last time Leeds were part of the English top-flight and fans will expect the current head coach will be expected to carry on that record.

Leeds eyeing Jose

The West Yorkshire club have grand plans of their own with Football Insider claiming former United boss Jose Mourinho is being eyed for the managerial post should the club sack Daniel Farke.

“Jose Mourinho, Steven Gerrard and Lee Carsley are on Leeds United’s shortlist as the club plot a shock manager change, sources have told Football Insider.

“A shortlist has been drawn up behind the scenes, with a number of options considered should they decide to swoop for a new boss this summer.

“However, speculation about Farke’s future is currently considered unlikely to result in his sacking and he is expected to lead his side out in the Premier League.”

Will Mourinho come?

The German has done a great job since being appointed, notching 90 points in his first season before losing the play-offs to Southampton.

He has done the job this season but Mourinho is “box-office” and could potentially be Leeds’ biggest transfer should the convince the Portuguese, who has never hid his ambitions of returning to manage in the Premier League.

But Mourinho has unfinished business at Fenerbahce, who are on course to lose the league to Galatasaray again. He might want to win something with the Turkish giants before jumping ship.

At United, the “special one” won the Community Shield, Carabao Cup, and Europa League in his debut season before things eventually came crashing down in his third season.
