Recent heavy rains have caused the river Signa to overflow its banks. Large areas on the banks of the river, which are usually popular outdoor recreation areas for city dwellers, are now submerged, but in some places the water level has risen by more than four and a half meters.

Floods have occurred in several cities in southwestern France, for example in Saintes, where the river Charante has risen by more than six meters. Hundreds have had to leave their homes and the flood has caused a power outage.
