Fernandes squandered the decisive penalty, but this United star single-handedly cost his team 3 points today

Manchester United fell to a 3-1 loss to Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium. Here are our player ratings from the game.

(A score of 6 is around average)

Altay Bayindir 5 – Made an excellent double save in the first half to keep United in the game, but didn’t cover himself in glory for Igor Thiago’s second goal of the contest or Mathias Jensen’s late strike.

Matthijs de Ligt 4 – Uncertain for Brentford’s second goal but he produced a much better performance in the second half.

Harry Maguire 2 – Terrible for the opener. Tried to gamble with the offside trap but was caught out. Showed hesitation in closing down Thiago, who punished him by finding the back of the net.

Luke Shaw 5 – Just OK.

Diogo Dalot 4 – Hardly got into the game, stuck on the outskirts for most of it.

Manuel Ugarte 5.5 – Contributed with key tackles and interceptions in midfield but his recurring issues on the ball hampered United at times.

Bruno Fernandes 3 – Struggled to influence the game yet again from a deeper role and missed a decisive penalty that could have drawn United level.

Patrick Dorgu 6 – Showed great determination to create Sesko’s goal with a driven run and cross, even if the rest of his performance remained fairly understated.

Bryan Mbeumo 5 – One of his poorer performances for United. Brentford defenders neutralised him but he still managed to win a penalty for United.

Matheus Cunha 4 – Set up the cross for Mbeumo that led to United’s penalty, but overall it was a forgettable outing. Failed to make an impact

Benjamin Sesko 7 – Showed great determination to score his first United goal.

Substitutes

Kobbie Mainoo 5 – Didn’t really make a difference when he came on bar a few good touches and contributions on the ball.

Leny Yoro 6 – Seamlessly slotted into the backline. Bizarre that he started on the bench again.

Mason Mount 5 – Offered nothing of note and made no difference.

Joshua Zirkzee 5 – Same as Mount.
