Fantastic news for United in bid to secure free signing of world-class star as huge update emerges – report

Manchester United have been handed a major boost in their efforts to land Barcelona midfielder Dani Olmo as the Spanish club’s bid to re-register him suffered a significant setback.

United could sign Olmo on a free transfer in just four days after a court rejected Barcelona’s efforts to register the playmaker under La Liga regulations, citing their challenging financial situation.

According to Mundo Deportivo [via The Daily Mail], “The Commercial Court 10 of Barcelona made the decision public, announcing that they would not be allowing the Blaugrana to register the midfielder.”

“In response, Barcelona are expected to present a new lawsuit against La Liga in a last-ditch attempt to have their summer signing available for the second-half of the season.”

“It is expected that they will present the argument that the registration rules are invalid because they are regulated by a body that they consider incompetent.”

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Olmo’s agent Andy Bara arrived in Manchester, sparking speculation that the player’s camp are already looking at alternatives.

In addition to United, City and Arsenal are also thought to be keeping close tabs on Olmo and how his situation develops.

Bara was due to attend City’s Premier League clash with Everton at the Etihad on Boxing Day.

Olmo – who joined the Blaugrana in the summer from RB Leipzig in a deal worth around £50million – was a standout performer for Spain as they won Euro 2024, beating England in the final.

He carried his form to Barcelona and registered an impressive six goals and one assist in 15 matches during the first half of the campaign.

The next few days will be crucial in determining Olmo’s future and which club he could play for next if he ends up leaving Barcelona.

Meanwhile, United return to action on Monday when they host Eddie Howe’s Newcastle at Old Trafford.
