Fabrizio Romano: United superstar’s future lies in Carrick’s hands, the head coach will take a call after pre-season

Manchester United have officially announced three summer arrivals, but further incomings may have to wait. As relayed by The Peoples Person, INEOS will shift their focus to player sales, with Marcus Rashford among those earmarked to leave. Barcelona opted not to trigger his £26 million buy option, and the Red Devils had made it clear to the Blaugrana that they would not entertain another loan arrangement. United are eager to remove the Englishman’s substantial wages from their books, which was a major reason why Bayern Munich chose not to pursue a deal. Michael Carrick keen to hand Marcus Rashford another chance However, Michael Carrick has extended an olive branch to his former teammate, and the 28-year-old is expected to return to Carrington for pre-season now that England have exited the World Cup. The Italian reported that Carrick is eager to work with Marcus Rashford, and to see whether he has the right attitude to become a part of the squad again. If the England international’s familiar failings reappear, he is likely to be shown the door. Should Marcus Rashford not impress with his attitude, United will sell him “Marcus Rashford is not considering a move to Turkey at this stage of his career. Michael Carrick is looking forward to working with Marcus Rashford. “He wants to see Rashford, see his attitude, feelings and then decide whether he’s going to stay or leave the club.” Given the way things ended between the player and Manchester United under former head coach Ruben Amorim, a clean break could suit both parties. But with the Old Trafford side short on funds, United might opt to keep him onboard instead of signing Crysencio Summerville. In that case, Noussair Mazraoui or Lisandro Martinez might be forced out with AC Milan and Atletico Madrid interested.
