Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Facundo Pellistri is all set to leave Man United permanently.
Manchester United Football Club are now in a situation where they have to sell players before they can further strengthen the playing squad with new signings. For Erik ten Hag, it’s about identifying those that are surplus to requirements – though some tough decisions have to be made.
One man who has remained on the fringes of the first-team for a couple of years now is Facundo Pellistri. The winger has shown flashes of his quality off the substitutes bench, though the man from Uruguay is yet to nail down a regular place in the starting line-up.
He’s now at that stage in his career where regular football is an absolute must. He may have to leave the Theatre of Dreams to find minutes, with a move away now in the offing.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the talented first-teamer is now set to leave in a permanent deal, worth around £5m. The journalist even gave it his famous ‘here we go!’ tagline…
Pellistri will head to Greek side Panathinaikos, signing a long-term contract, while United have included a sell-on clause in order to earn some future profit from the young winger.

Manager Diego Alonso is said to be the key reason why Pellistri is keen on the move, with regular football potentially on offer for the first time in his young career.
Although it’s such a minimal fee, the transfer does make sense. Pellistri hasn’t pushed into a starting role at Old Trafford and with Amad now shining, the man from Uruguay is further down the pecking order.
It makes sense to move on from Pellistri now, so the player can go out there and develop as a footballer, while United are free from his wages. The fact that United have included a sell-on clause does hint that the club believe there’s a player in there somewhere. Let’s hope they can profit on Pellistri in future.
