A former coach of Raphael Varane’s says the French defender will be a ‘great signing’ for Manchester United.
Aitor Karanka was part of Jose Mourinho’s coaching staff at Real Madrid and he played a part in helping Varane become the player he is today.
The Spanish coach is confident Varane will succeed in the Premier League just like he did in La Liga.
Karanka told Sky Sports: “There is no question that he is a great signing. He has got everything you need to succeed at Manchester United.
“It is a new challenge for him and he is at an ideal age. Even after having won everything that he has, knowing him as I do, he will be really motivated to keep on lifting trophies and progressing.”

Varane’s deal is due to be formalised next week ahead of the new Premier League season.
His signing has been lauded by former Red Devils star Gary Neville and is seen as a major upgrade for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s defence.
United have already added Jadon Sancho in attack, and were able to land both players because Varane’s cost was reduced, as he had just one year remaining on his Real Madrid contract.
After 10 years in Spain, Varane wanted a new challenge, having seen boss Zinedine Zidane depart along with long-term playing partner Sergio Ramos. Varane will certainly get what he wants at Old Trafford, and he is joining a side ready to take the next step forward.
