Even United bomb squad unite to celebrate immensely popular star with social media outpouring of emotion

Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes, celebrated his 31st birthday yesterday.

United career

The Portugal international has played 294 games for United and scored 99 goals in all competitions.

He has also won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup since joining the club from Sporting CP in January 2020.

Fernandes has also been part of two Europa League final losses in 2021 and 2025.

The midfielder was heavily linked to a move to Saudi Arabia in the summer but he eventually decided to stay at Old Trafford for at least another season.

Birthday wishes

Fernandes is clearly a popular member of the dressing room with current and former players all wishing him the best on his birthday.

Current teammate Altay Bayindir posted on Instagram, “Happy birthday capitano” with the two players in a picture together.

His former midfield partner Juan Mata also posted a funny picture of a youthful looking Fernandes on his own social media.

He posted in Spanish, “feliz cumpleaños Bruno Fernandes. Te quiero y te echo de menos”. This translates to happy birthday Bruno Fernandes. I love you and I miss you.

Even exiled teammates chime in

Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho were both part of the famed “bomb squad”, players who Ruben Amorim and the club had decided were no longer wanted at Old Trafford.

Therefore, they trained separately away from the main group until they secured a move away.

Sancho finally left on loan to Aston Villa on deadline day and Garnacho sealed a permanent transfer to Chelsea.

Sancho posted “Happy birthday brother and have a good day.”

Finally Garnacho posted on Instagram, “Thanks for everything you did for me. I love you.”

Fernandes will be in action this evening when Portugal travel to Hungary in an all-important World Cup qualifier.
