Ethan Laird tells Manchester United how Swansea City loan has improved him

Manchester United graduate Ethan Laird is loving life with Swansea City – and is in no doubt he will return to Old Trafford a better player.

Having teamed-up with Russell Martin at MK Dons during the January transfer window, the 20-year-old headed on loan to the Championship this season.

That came after Martin was appointed by the Swans when Steve Cooper announced his departure.

In terms of results, it was a challenging start to life for Laird – and Martin – in the Championship, but Swansea have won three of their last five games to move up to 12th place.

They are within striking distance of the play-offs and the United prospect has made 15 appearances this season.

So what has this latest loan spell done for the highly-rated defender and his development?

Speaking to the Swansea website, he said: “I’m enjoying life here and I think everyone can see that’s the case.

“I have been loving the games, I have been loving getting to know the lads and I have been enjoying getting to know the area. It’s all been great so far, I’m a happy guy. I have every reason to be smiling.

“When I came here, I had obviously worked with the gaffer before, so I knew about the style of play.

“It was different for quite a few of the lads, but I could say to them that if it’s given time we are going to enjoy it and we are going to do well.”

Laird added: “It’s an enjoyable way of playing and recent results have started to reflect that.

“I’ve also taken a lot from stepping up to the Championship after playing in League One last season.

“There’s a step in the intensity and the physicality and in the speed of the play. It demands a lot of you, but that’s what I want, it’s great for me.

“I had options in the summer, but this was a no-brainer. I know I will learn here, I know I will improve here.”
