Erik ten Hag to Manchester United: Latest odds as Donny van de Beek link examined – Manchester Evening News

The relentless speculation surrounding the future of Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is unrelenting.

A poor start to the 2021-22 season, including heavy losses on home soil to their biggest rivals in Liverpool and Manchester City, have led to many supporters doubting the credentials of the incumbent coach to take the team forward.

The Manchester Evening News understands that United considered sacking Solskjaer after the 5-0 hammering by Liverpool and he is said to remain at risk of losing his job.

It’s understood that Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has admirers at Old Trafford despite being a former Liverpool manager, although a lot of supporters have been making the case for Ajax boss Erik ten Hag.

The 51-year-old has won two Eredivisie titles with Ajax, took them to the Champions League semi-finals in 2019 and his teams are revered for the excellent football they play.

Here is all the latest news on Ten Hag and the rumours linking him with a switch to the Theatre of Dreams.

Latest odds on Ten Hag appointment – November 8

Rodgers is currently the favourite with the bookmakers to take over from Solskjaer should United decide to make a change, per Grosvenor Sport.

The Northern Irishman is the clear front-runner in the market, priced up at 6/4. Following him are former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane (6/1) and Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino (7/1).

Ten Hag is fourth on the list, with the Ajax manager considered an 11/1 shot to get the job at United.

Ten Hag, Van de Beek relationship analysed – November 8

Tyrone Marshall looked at what the appointment of Ten Hag may mean for the club’s current out-of-favour midfielder Donny van de Beek.

The Dutch international excelled at Ajax under the guidance of the coach and was one of the most prolific goalscoring midfielders in European football.

Since moving to United his stock has fallen significantly, with Solskjaer giving Van de Beek only a handful of chances to show what he can do.

Marshall believes any potential appointment of Ten Hag could turn to Van de Beek to reignite the side.

“If he wanted to know what he was getting into then Van de Beek could fill him in, with the midfielder playing a prominent role under the 51-year-old head coach at Ajax,” he said. “If Ten Hag was to replace Solskjaer then Van de Beek would expect to get a more prominent role in a midfield that has been crying out for his gifts in possession.”
