Erik ten Hag has shared the latest injury news ahead of a huge week or so for Man United.
Manchester United have some massive games on the horizon. A double-header against FC Barcelona, followed by Erik ten Hag’s first cup final in charge of the Old Trafford club against Newcastle United.
The games are starting to come thick and fast, which, inevitably, is taking its toll on the playing squad. Injuries are starting to be picked up, leaving the squad looking somewhat thin on the ground in certain areas.
Recently, Antony, Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay have all missed time with problems. The trio have been absent for the last couple of matches. Sadly, none have travelled to Catalonia to play Barca at the Camp Nou this evening.
The gaffer was asked directly about whether these guys would be ready to go for the Newcastle game a week from Sunday, with Ten Hag admitting it ‘looks good’ on that injury front. He specifically seemed hopeful about both McTominay and Antony potentially being back in time for that clash.
Check out what Erik ten Hag had to say here:
“It looks good,” Ten Hag responded when asked about the trio’s availability for the Carabao Cup final, per ManUtd.com.
“I think they are on the way back. They are coming back in the training squad, [with] the individual [training work].
“At the end of the week, maybe Scott can begin training with the team and after the weekend maybe Antony [can do that too], but we have to see.
“They are making progress, [that is] what we see now.”
The gaffer didn’t answer questions about Martial directly, so I’d imagine the Frenchman’s torrid injury luck is set to continue. At this point, he’s becoming a liability rather than a helpful squad member, so don’t be surprised if he’s moved on this coming summer.
Thankfully, there was better news about McTominay, who should be back in training this week. Hopefully, he’ll be on the bench when the Reds play Leicester City on Sunday.
Then, early next week, I’d love to see training photos of Antony. Whatever people’s opinions on the Brazilian, United play better football with him in the team. Now I know he has competition for a place from Jadon Sancho, though that can only be beneficial for the both of them.
Get well soon, lads!
