End of player power at United: INEOS to back Amorim regarding controversial selection call in refreshing change – report

Manchester United’s 0-3 loss against Bournemouth on Sunday means for the first time in the Premier League era, the Red Devils will remain in the bottom half of the league table at Christmas.

Ruben Amorim once again decided to leave out Marcus Rashford from the matchday squad, the third game in a row this has happened.

It started with the Manchester derby when the head coach pointed to training displays among other things as a reason, a decision which was supported by the INEOS hierarchy.

A couple of days after the game, the Mancunian announced that he is open to leaving his boyhood club and since then, headlines have all been about the United No 10’s future rather than about the team’s performances, something that did not please the dressing room.

Amorim not happy with Rashford

Amorim has not taken kindly to those comments and publicly explained that the forward was not receiving the best of advice from his team and as per The Times, INEOS will support the head coach regarding any decision he takes with the player.

In the past, the inept Glazers have backed players over the manager, which in turn led to a rampant increase in player power and it is refreshing to see the new co-owners changing perceptions around the club.

However, a lack of gametime might hurt the club when it comes to trying to find a suitor for the England international who will pay the club’s asking price along with the player’s humongous £375,000 per week wages (as per capology).

“Sir Jim Ratcliffe and other senior figures at Manchester United will leave the decision over Marcus Rashford’s future with the club completely in the hands of the head coach Ruben Amorim.

INEOS backing Amorim

“It has been made clear that Ratcliffe, the club’s new minority owner, will not interfere in any way, despite the potential damage being caused to Rashford’s sale value by his absence from the team.”

Already, both Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have exited the race with only Saudi Arabian teams prepared to pay over the odds for the 27-year-old. But the forward has no intention of quitting Europe for the riches of the Middle East just yet.

Loan offers have arrived at the club’s doorstep for the Englishman, something unlikely to be sanctioned given United’s need for the money so that they can go out and acquire a replacement.

The amount raised is set to be counted as pure profit owing to Rashford’s homegrown status. Only a few days are left for the January window and if the 27-year-old continues to be ignored, an unlikely early exit cannot be ruled out.
