Elite manager ‘would love’ to take charge at Man United again, 61-year-old is a ‘friend’ of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s: report

Jose Mourinho would be more than happy to take the reigns at Man United for a second spell as manager.

Manchester United Football Club may have a managerial decision to make this coming summer. The Old Trafford side could part ways with Erik ten Hag, who has flattered to deceive, particularly recently.

Pressure is rightly building on the Dutchman. He’s only got himself to blame for that. No doubt behind the scenes, the search for a replacement is already well underway. Names like Thomas Tuchel and Gareth Southgate have been linked. Both those claims make sense, although they’re somewhat underwhelming.

However, it seems as though a former Reds boss would like another crack at the whip; Jose Mourinho.

It’s the Manchester Evening News with the claim. They state that the elite manager ‘would love’ to take charge at Man United again.

However, there’s a catch. The club does not want to reappoint the man from Portugal. The self-proclaimed Special One would ‘walk’ to Manchester for a second time, following his sacking at Old Trafford six years ago.

What makes this interesting is that the 61-year-old is a ‘friend’ of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, though Mourinho is not expecting an approach at this stage.

Mourinho is currently unemployed after an excellent stint with AS Roma over in Italy.

In a long-term scenario, I wouldn’t want Mourinho anywhere near United again. However, if United felt bold enough to sack Ten Hag before the end of the season, I’d get him in for the last few weeks of the campaign – including the FA Cup final.

My initial thought was that Mourinho wouldn’t be open to this type of contract, though at the end of the day, there’s a chance at an FA Cup trophy staring him right in the face. I don’t believe his ego would allow him to turn that opportunity down.

I know it’s a long shot, but I’d genuinely give United a better chance at pulling a victory off with him in charge as right now, Ten Hag is struggling massively.
