Ecstatic United star says he realised childhood dream against Sunderland and heaps praise on “unbelievable” Old Trafford atmosphere

A troubled Manchester United go into the international break on a high after beating Sunderland 2-0 at Old Trafford.

Times have been tough for Ruben Amorim and his players, but a convincing win over the North-Eastern over-achievers shows a much-needed reaction to last weekend’s nightmare defeat at Brentford.

First-half goals from Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko secured the three points, and Senne Lammens kept a clean sheet on his United debut.

Sesko’s dream moment

Sesko took a while to get up to speed at United after his big-money move from RB Leipzig but now has two goals in two games for the Red Devils and looked sharp against Sunderland.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, he explained just how much his first goal at the Theatre of Dreams meant to him.

The Slovenian explained that scoring at Old Trafford “has been the moment I’ve dreamed about as a kid, because the atmosphere here is unbelievable.

“Not just after the goal, but after every tackle as well. It’s a dream come true, I’m happy we won.”

Sesko notched 21 goals in 45 matches for Leipzig last season, and the Red Devils won a hard-fought race with Newcastle United to bring him to the Premier League.

The striker admitted that “there are some differences” between the Premier League and the Bundesliga, expanding that “the guys are stronger, but I’m getting used to it more and more every training, getting better every single game.”

Pressure at United

The pressure felt by players and managers at United is notorious, and mentality is as important as talent to succeed at the club.

Sesko’s comments indicate that he is ready for it. He said: “I work for that, if you have pressure it means you are doing something good. I don’t take pressure as something negative.”

Results this season have been disappointing, and performances have been under scrutiny as Amorim’s position as head coach is called into question.

It can’t be an easy time to be a United player, but Sesko spoke calmly about the situation and explained the squad’s resolve ahead of their next match which pits them against Liverpool.

He said: “It’s important for us to win, to get confidence for the next game, especially as we go into the break.

“When we come back we will be ready to go into the next game.”
