Dream United reunion still on the cards as free agent midfield maestro rejects big offer from rival PL club – report

Former Manchester United star and reported summer midfield target Angel Gomes has turned down a contract offer from West Ham.

United are expected to dip into the market for midfield reinforcements and Gomes’ name has repeatedly been mentioned.

Gomes has established himself as one of Ligue 1’s best midfielders since leaving United for Lille on a free transfer in 2020, signing a five-year deal.

His terms expire this summer and Lille are believed to be resigned to losing him. In addition to United, Gomes has also been linked to Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle and West Ham.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that the Hammers presented the England international with a contract, in a bid to beat other interested parties to his signature.

Now, The Guardian have given an update, indicating that Gomes has snubber their £100,000-a-week offer.

The news outlet claims that West Ham boss Graham Potter is eager to alter the composition of his dynamic and is a huge fan of Gomes.

The Carrington academy graduate doesn’t consider the London club’s offer high enough. There are other complications hindering a transfer from getting over the line and there is little confidence that an agreement will be struck.

The Guardian add that West Ham will abandon their pursuit of Gomes and look at alternative targets if talks cannot be revived.

Gomes is also on Barcelona’s radar.

The 24-year-old missed out on Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad having dropped out of the Lille side in recent weeks.

He has made 20 appearances across all competitions for Lille this season, scoring twice and providing one assist. His campaign has been disrupted by injuries, limiting him to just 10 top-flight starts.
