BACK Manchester United are one of 3 clubs interested in signing Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah, according to TEAMtalk. The website claims that the Red Devils could join Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in pursuing the centre-back when the transfer window opens in January. Chalobah is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury but he has reportedly been deemed surplus to requirements by the Blues. Fans on X are not keen on the player making the switch to Old Trafford: Don’t want another Chelsea reject, just sign Todibo instead… — UtdUnity (@UtdUnity) October 30, 2023 He’s awful. No thank you. — Max (@Max_mufc02) October 30, 2023 Just get Todibo lol — 🏌🏼 (@ScottUtd_) October 30, 2023 If he’s not good enough for Chelsea he’s definitely not good enough for United. — Saabz (@Saabz101) October 31, 2023 Noooooo — jez (@headspacepoet) October 30, 2023 Please don’t buy him — GM (@garymarland) October 31, 2023 Please no more Chelsea rejects. This manager should also not be allowed to spend another penny! — Tom 🇶🇦 (@TC_UTD) October 30, 2023 United may be considering Chalobah as an economical solution Respected sources have confirmed that Erik ten Hag’s side will make signing a centre-half a top priority in the New Year. The interest in Chalobah, therefore, does make some sense, as he is likely to be available for around £25m. Nottingham Forest are believed to have had a bid accepted for the same figure back in the summer but the 24-year-old turned down the move to the City Ground. What are United’s other centre-back targets? Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo, Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba, Benfica’s Antonio Silva and Sporting Lisbon’s Goncalo Inacio are all known to be on the Manchester club’s shortlist. However, all four of these options would cost a lot more than Chalobah. Todibo would probably be the cheapest, but his form for Nice this season could increase his price tag, so we shall see who United end up going after. Is Erik ten Hag to blame for United’s bad form?
