The steward that was hit by a fierce shot from Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed she thought she had died.

Marisa Nobile was struck on the head when Ronaldo, who returned to Old Trafford last month, struck an effort wide of the target during his warm-up ahead of United’s 2-1 defeat to Young Boys in the Champions League on Tuesday evening in Switzerland.

The ball whistled past the goal and cannoned straight into the head of Nobile, causing her to fall back to the ground and end up in a daze.

Ronaldo immediately jumped over the advertising boards behind the goal to check on her and make sure that she was OK and apologise for the incident.

Now, Nobile has admitted that she soon recovered when she saw Ronaldo come over to her to check on her.

Speaking to Blick TV, she said: “When the ball hit me on my head it was a full strike!

“I was gone in my head and went to the ground. Afterwards I saw Ronaldo above me! Me: ‘Oh my god no, did I die?’

“Ronaldo said: ‘No, no. Excuse me! What’s happening? Are you alright?’

“I was in great pain. My God. I was more or less ballaballa ! But then I saw Ronaldo and the headache was gone.”

Nobile was later given Ronaldo’s shirt and was pictured wearing it during the game.

Despite probably being left slightly guilty about what had happened, it failed to knock Ronaldo’s confidence as he netted the game’s opening goal inside the opening quarter of an hour, connecting with Bruno Fernandes’ excellent pass.

Unfortunately for him and United, Young Boys turned the game on its head in the second half, running out 2-1 winners, with the sending-off of Aaron Wan-Bissaka having a major impact on the pattern of the game.
