Dembele the first Barcelona star hit with a fine under the Xavi regime

Word stemming from Spain on Friday suggests that a high-profile member of Xavi Hernandez’s newly-inherited FC Barcelona squad has been slapped with the first fine under the tactician’s watch.

Blaugrana return An exciting new era in the Catalan capital of course finally got underway earlier this week.

On the back of Ronald Koeman’s dismissal, owing to an opening to the campaign which can be described as nothing short of dismal, those in a position of power at the Camp Nou wasted little time in appointing the Dutchman’s long-term successor.

The man in question? Club legend Xavi Hernandez.

After a lengthy negotiation process with Qatari giants Al Sadd, in a bid to release Xavi from his terms in the Middle East, Barca made official their capture of the one-time Spanish international this past Monday:

Dembele punished And Xavi has since wasted little time in getting acquainted with his new squad of players.

The course of the week to date has seen a whole host of footage make its way online, showcasing the 41-year-old’s efforts to whip the Blaugrana’s stars to have remained in Catalunya during the international break into shape.

And, as alluded to above, if the latest word doing the rounds in the Spanish media is anything to go by, then one member of Barca’s playing staff has already been handed an early indication of just how demanding life under Xavi is set to prove.

As per a report from ESPN Deportes, Ousmane Dembele was today hit with the first fine of the Xavi regime.

The new Blaugrana boss is understood to have made clear to his players that the cut-off time for arriving to morning training sessions is 8:30 am.

Dembele, however, arrived into the club’s dressing room at 8:33 on Friday, three minutes late.

In turn, the Frenchman was informed that he will be required to pay an undisclosed but mandatory fine.
