De Gea “acting as a middleman” to convince Amorim reject to join Fiorentina – report

Former Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has attracted interest from Fiorentina, as per reports.

United are in the process of revamping their backline ahead of the next season, having released two experienced centre-backs at the end of the season.

Lindelof followed Jonny Evans through the exit door at Old Trafford upon the expiration of his contract.

While Evans has made a swift return to United, joining the club as their head of loans and pathways, Lindelof is poised to reunite with one of his former teammates.

According to FootItalia (via the Manchester Evening News), Fiorentina have shown interest in signing Lindelof.

It is reported that the Sweden international, who made 284 appearances for the Red Devils, was earlier on Juventus’ radar. However, the Old Lady have now different objectives.

Fiorentina, meanwhile, are prepared to step up their efforts to sign Lindelof, partly due to David de Gea.

The pair shared the dressing room at United for six years, and now the Spaniard wants his ex-teammate to join him in Florence.

It is understood that De Gea is “acting as a middleman” to get Lindelof to sign for Fiorentina.

The 30-year-old, who moved to the Premier League from Benfica in 2017, is open to moving to Serie A, but he will need to take a pay cut.

De Gea is currently the highest paid player at Fiorentina, taking home around €73k per week. Lindelof, meanwhile, was on a €139k per week contract at United. He is likely to be offered a similar contract to the former United number one to ensure he fits into the Italian outfit’s budget.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United are monitoring Serie A central defender Evan Ndicka, with AS Roma open to listening to offers for their star.
