David Ornstein confirms Man United star’s season is over after sustaining an injury

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford will miss the remainder of the Premier League season with a hamstring injury, David Ornstein of The Athletic has confirmed.

Rashford – who is currently away on loan at Aston Villa – missed the Birmingham club’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The 27-year-old was in fine form before the fixture, notching an impressive four goals and six assists in 17 appearances.

However, he was a surprise absentee from the Villa matchday squad that made its way to Wembley, with Unai Emery later saying that he was unavailable for selection due to a physical setback.

Emery revealed that Rashford picked up the issue in training and strongly hinted it could rule him out of the rest of the campaign.

Now, the reliable Ornstein has confirmed as much.

The Athletic journalist states, “Marcus Rashford is expected to miss the remainder of Aston Villa’s season with a hamstring injury. Further tests will be done to establish the severity of Rashford’s injury but it is expected that he will not need surgery.”

“Villa have only four Premier League games to go in their season and the last of those is against Rashford’s parent club Manchester United on May 25, where he is ineligible to feature, meaning it is highly likely his club campaign is over.”

“It is not completely out of the question that he is fit in time for Villa’s home game against Tottenham Hotspur on May 18, though that is complicated by the discussions over moving that fixture.”

Ornstein notes that Rashford’s full attention is now on England and getting fit in time for the Three Lions’ fixtures in June and then pre-season.

It’s understood that the 27-year-old will not return to United for his rehabilitation. He will undergo this at Villa, even amidst ongoing uncertainty over his future.

Villa have the option of making his signing a permanent one for £40million, but a final decision on whether or not they will exercise yet to be made.

A report covered by The Peoples Person claimed that Rashford has not entirely closed the door to a return to Old Trafford despite tensions with Ruben Amorim. He prefers a move to a club offering Champions League football and is not considering any London-based teams.
