Damning details about Garnacho’s antics emerge, former United players “would have sorted him out” in dressing room – report

Manchester United defenders will come up against a familiar face this Saturday, as the Red Devils host Chelsea in the Premier League.

Garnacho was one of the most talked-about players during the summer transfer window after Ruben Amorim banished him from his first-team plans.

The 21-year-old scored 11 goals and assisted 10 times in all competitions last term, a relatively impressive output. However, his petulance quickly broke his relationship with Amorim, who told him to find a new club in front of his teammates at the end of the last season.

How Garnacho left Amorim frustrated

According to the Daily Mail, his teammates were not big admirers of his attitude either.

It is understood that Garnacho wanted to emulate his idol, Cristiano Ronaldo, but his teammates were not convinced, and felt he didn’t pass the ball enough.

Further, both Erik ten Hag and Amorim were “frustrated by his lack of discipline, especially in tracking back.”

His lack of defensive acumen has already bitten Chelsea, who forked out £40 million to sign him before deadline day. On his debut at Stamford Bridge, he switched off and failed to track Fabio Carvalho, who made no mistake from close range to score a late equaliser for Brentford.

Garnacho reportedly first irked Amorim against Viktoria Plzen in December, as the United head coach felt the substitute turned his back on him while he was giving him instructions on the touchline. He was axed for the Manchester derby three days later.

Ten Hag failed to control Garnacho

Ten Hag showed more patience with the United academy product, whose antics were a frequent source of disappointment.

The report reveals: “Having reprimanded Garnacho for walking around the club with his socks down and shoelaces undone, Ten Hag took the youngster on his first pre-season tour to Thailand and Australia in 2022 but froze him out after Garnacho was late down to breakfast at the team hotel in Bangkok and another meeting on the trip.”

The ex-Atletico Madrid talent had to also apologise to the Dutchman for liking a comment criticising his substitution against Bournemouth.

Senior players like Bruno Fernandes and Lisandro Martinez tried to guide him, but with “limited success.”

One former United player told Daily Mail Sport: “In our day, the dressing room would have sorted him out.” Fortunately for Amorim, Garnacho is no longer his problem.
