A crucial contract detail has surfaced after Manchester United and Trabzonspor struck a deal for another Andre Onana loan transfer. Onana exit Onana spent the 2025/26 season out on loan at Trabzonspor after it became increasingly clear that he no longer had a future at United. He made 33 appearances in all competitions for Trabzonspor as he helped them finish third in the Super Lig and thus qualifying for the Europa League play-off round. The Cameroonian is believed to have been keen on returning to United and fighting for his place under Michael Carrick, but United made it clear that such an opportunity would not be forthcoming. Senne Lammens has established himself as the club’s undisputed starter between the sticks following a sensational maiden season in England. The former Royal Antwerp man was named the Premier League Transfer of the Season. Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan revealed earlier in the month that he was keen on bringing Onana back to the Senol Gunes Sports Complex. Fabrizio Romano has since confirmed that United and Trabzonspor have an agreement in place for Onana to return to Trabzonspor. Romano even sealed the transfer with his famous “here we go” catchphrase. United will receive a loan fee from Trabzonspor even as the final details are being sorted before an official announcement. Now, it has been confirmed that the deal will not include an option or obligation for Trabzonspor to make Onana’s signing permanent next summer. Contract detail emerges According to the Daily Mail’s Chris Wheeler on X, “Understand there is no option for Trabzon to buy Onana next summer under the terms of his new loan deal which is still being finalised.” Understand there is no option for Trabzon to buy Onana next summer under the terms of his new loan deal which is still being finalised #mufc https://t.co/PLjB4e0ph0 — Chris Wheeler (@ChrisWheelerDM) June 25, 2026 This has been corroborated by Ben Jacobs as well as The Athletic. “Parties are still finalising Andre Onana’s loan, but there is not expected to be a buy option.” Parties are still finalising Andre Onana’s loan, but there is not expected to be a buy option.⬇️ https://t.co/E38NFnpSK3 — Ben Jacobs (@JacobsBen) June 25, 2026 This would seem to indicate that Onana’s performances in the 2026/27 season will be the deciding factor in whether Trabzonspor opt to sign him permanently. The 30-year-old becomes the fifth high-profile exit at United this summer after Rasmus Hojlund, Casemiro, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia.
