Cristiano Ronaldo gave his match-worn jersey from Manchester United’s Champions League defeat against BSC Young Boys on Tuesday to a steward he hit with a wayward shot during the warm-up.
It was an unsuccessful return to Europe’s top competition for United, as they slipped to a late 2-1 defeat to Swiss side Young Boys in their opening group match.
Ronaldo had put United ahead in the 13th minute with a strike that has extended his lead at the top of the Champions League goal-scoring charts to 135.
However, the match turned when Aaron Wan-Bissaka was shown a red card and two second-half goals for the hosts pulled off a shock victory.

After the match, Ronaldo handed his shirt from the game to a steward.
The 36-year-old had hit the woman in the head with a stray shot in the warm-up prior to kick-off and she required medical attention.
United’s medical team provided assistance and, after seeing that the member of the security staff was in distress, Ronaldo hopped over the advertising boarding to check that she was okay.

United will return to Champions League action in two-week’s time when they welcome Villarreal – who defeated them in last season’s Europa League final – to Old Trafford.
