“Conversations have already begun”: Amorim tipped to reward this United star with his first European start vs Rangers – report

Manchester United suffered their sixth home Premier League defeat of the season on Sunday, with bogey team Brighton and Hove Albion clinching a 3-1 win.

Andre Onana had a howler in goal, committing two huge errors in the second-half to gift victory to the Seagulls. In a short span of time, the Cameroonian has built up quite the catalogue of errors in Manchester.

The former Inter Milan star seemed to be finally repaying the club for their trust in him with incredible saves in quite a few games early on in the campaign, but his inconsistent form seems to have caught up with him recently.

Head coach Ruben Amorim was asked about his No 1’s error-strewn display after the game. “It’s like the team, ups and downs, really up sometimes and really down sometimes,” he had said.

Mistakes creeping into Onana’s game

And now the ex-Sporting Lisbon boss is mulling over making a change in goal as per FourFourTwo with Altay Bayindir’s impressive form giving the Portuguese tactician food for thought.

The Turk single-handedly kept the Red Devils in the game against Arsenal last weekend and eventually came up trumps for the Old Trafford side in the penalty shoot-out as they advanced to Round Four of the FA Cup.

And now conversations have begun in the United dressing room over making a change in goal for the upcoming Europa League tie against Rangers on Thursday.

The Turkiye international is in line to make his first European start for the 20-time English league champions and if he impresses again, a first-ever Premier League start could also be around the corner.

Bayindir to start vs Rangers?

“Onana’s latest mistake to hand Georginio Rutter a simple goal will likely have aggravated Amorim. Manchester United’s direct errors have to be addressed but could he now sanction a change in the Europa League?

“FourFourTwo understands conversations have already begun as to whether Onana is dropped for the visit of Rangers in midweek with Bayindir being tipped to start his first European game for the club on Thursday.”

Bayindir has been starved of minutes this season resulting in the former Fenerbahce star being linked with an exit this January, especially after his blunder in the Carabao Cup against Tottenham Hotspur.

But his prospects have improved after his heroic FA Cup display and Onana’s high-profile errors and the backup keeper is expected to remain at Old Trafford.
