Controversial United Women legend on cusp of return to England with WSL side optimistic over deal – BBC

Former Manchester United Women goalkeeper Mary Earps could be about to return to English football. Earps’ United career The England goalkeeper had a very successful time at Manchester United. She helped the side win their only trophy to date, the FA Cup in 2024 at Wembley. Earps joined the club in 2019 and spent five seasons at the Leigh Sports Village. The goalkeeper played a total of 125 matches for the club and won the Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper award in 2022 and 2023 while representing United. Move to France Earps left United on a free transfer in the summer of 2024 and joined French side Paris Saint-Germain. She has played 22 times for the French side this season, conceding 18 goals. Earps has also kept an impressive 12 clean sheets for the Parisians. On the move The BBC report that Earps could well be on the move, with a return to England and the Women’s Super League back on the agenda. The news organisation reports that, “former England goalkeeper Mary Earps is edging closer to a return to the Women’s Super League, with London City Lionesses showing interest.” The article continues, “the 33-year-old was on the bench for Paris St-Germain in their 1-0 play-off semi-final defeat by Paris FC on Saturday, and is likely to leave the French club when her contract expires in June.” London City Lionesses have not yet agreed a deal with Earps but appear confident that they have the capability of doing so. Earps made a return to Old Trafford earlier this season when her Paris Saint-Germain side lost 2-1 to United in the Champions League phase in November.
