Conte pushing to sign 23-yo United star for Napoli, he has been brilliant under Amorim in recent weeks – report

Antonio Conte wants Napoli to sign Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee, as per reports.

The Partenopei have seemingly spent a lot of time following United in the last 12 months or so. Last summer, they signed Scott McTominay to strengthen their midfield. The Scotland international has become a very popular figure in Naples with his work ethic and goalscoring prowess.

In January, Napoli also tried to sign Alejandro Garnacho from the Red Devils after selling Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain.

Heading into the summer, the Serie A outfit have been linked with Rasmus Hojlund. And now, a report from Spain has suggested that Conte has set his sights on Zirkzee.

Napoli want to sign Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee

According to Fichajes, the Napoli boss has identified Zirkzee as his priority signing in attack.

He is considered a “perfect fit” for Conte’s style of play and the club’s hierarchy appreciate his past exploits in Serie A with Bologna.

The Dutchman moved to United last summer from Bologna in a deal worth £36.5 million after impressing clubs across Europe with his technical prowess and link up ability under Thiago Motta.

The 23-year-old attracted plenty of speculation surrounding his future during the winter window after struggling to find his feet under ex-United boss Erik ten Hag. His start under Ruben Amorim was also underwhelming, to say the least.

Napoli are prepared to push for his signature to bolster their frontline and the Spanish outlet claim that “talks could intensify in the coming weeks.”

It is suggested that Zirkzee “welcomes the possibility” of returning to Italy and playing an important role under Conte.

However, in recent weeks, the Netherlands international has shown signs of promise as a wide playmaker at United, earning plaudits for his ball-carrying ability and hold-up play.

Zirkzee appears determined to succeed at Old Trafford and it is best to take the claim with a pinch of salt.
