CL giants desperate to reinforce their ageing attack, they prefer one United attacker over another – report

Manchester United are fully focussed on strengthening their attack this summer following Rasmus Hojlund’s dismal campaign in front of goal.

The Dane managed a meagre four Premier League goals all season, and struggled with his back-to-goal play, while failing to trap even simple passes.

And even though Joshua Zirkzee ended up scoring fewer goals than the Denmark international, the Dutchman impressed with his linkup play and effectiveness in multiple positions.

He seemed to have won over Ruben Amorim despite his initial difficulties bedding in, and now, the Red Devils are more interested in keeping hold of the ex-Bologna ace than the former Atalanta star.

United keen to hold on to Joshua Zirkzee

Both of them have been linked with a return to the Serie A with Inter Milan a fan of both.

As per Tutto Mercato Web, Inter, fresh off their disappointing Champions League final defeat, are contemplating changes in attack.

Marko Arnautovic, Joaquin Correa and Mehdi Taremi are all likely to leave, and the San Siro outfit have emerged as a realistic landing ground for the United No.9, something INEOS would prefer.

But the Nerazzurri would prefer a move for Joshua Zirkzee, but Simone Inzaghi’s team are only prepared to offer an initial loan deal.

Inter prefer Joshua Zirkzee over Rasmus Hojlund

“Inter are evaluating further reinforcements in attack, especially considering the expiration of Arnautovic and Correa’s contracts. In addition to the youngsters Carboni and Esposito, an intervention in the forward department could be brought forward.

“Among the names monitored is Bonny from Parma, even if the request of 20 million requires reflection, perhaps including a technical counterpart. The main objective remains a more experienced striker, with an eye on Manchester United: they like Hojlund and, above all, Zirkzee, for whom the Nerazzurri are evaluating a loan.”

Recently, The Peoples Person had relayed Inter were willing to pay around €40 million for Hojlund, something INEOS would accept given the player’s dismal form.

But losing Zirkzee on loan is not something the co-owners are looking to sanction at this stage. It remains to be seen what ultimately happens with both United forwards this summer.
