Chelsea ‘rushing’ to move for Man United-linked striker Marcus Thuram

Chelsea are reportedly looking to “rush through” a deal to sign Manchester United “target” Marcus Thuram.

Thuram has been heavily linked with a transfer to the Premier League this January as he only has a few months to run on his Borussia Monchengladbach contract. It means he could be available for a reduced price, as well as being able to discuss a potential Bosman move – in the summer – to clubs based outside Germany.

United are in the chase for a new striker after Cristiano Ronaldo departed them for a second time. However, while the club have limited numbers in attacking quarters, with Jadon Sancho not yet ready to return to action, manager Erik ten Hag will only move for the right option who meets “sporting and financial” criteria.

Several players, including Thuram, have been mooted in that regard. United are interested in Victor Osimhen from Napoli but, due to their ongoing quest for Serie A and Champions League success, he will not be attainable during the January transfer window – with one eye on the summer as a result.

Reports from Foot Mercato suggest Chelsea are, meanwhile, determined to sign Thuram this month. He has scored 15 goals this season and represented France at the World Cup.

The report claims Chelsea are “very keen” on the French striker and “could take action” this month. Saudi-backed Newcastle are also thought to be in the race for the 25-year-old international.

Elsewhere, reports from Portuguese outlet CM Jornal claim United are working on a deal to sign Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa next summer. Costa, 23, has been mooted as a potential successor to David de Gea with the Spaniard yet to sign a contract extension at Old Trafford.

De Gea has been an impressive performer once again this season, but there are several factors at play with regards to his long-term future. Costa, meanwhile, has penned a new agreement with Porto.

However, that could be to protect their investment with interest in the Portugal number one mounting. The article claims United would be willing to pay his €75million release clause.
