Chelsea “ready to pay” as final decision made on goal-shy Jadon Sancho – report

Chelsea have reportedly decided to pay the £5 million penalty to Manchester United so they don’t need to buy Jadon Sancho.

The United winger joined the Blues on loan last summer with an obligation to buy for £25 million if they finished above 14th in the league.

The 25 year old made a strong start to life in West London but his performances have fallen off a cliff in 2025.

Despite getting regular opportunities to impress, Sancho has rarely been a significant factor in matches for the Stamford Bridge side.

His poor attacking contributions can be best shown in the fact he has gone 15 consecutive games without a goal or an assist and he has only had two shots on target during this time.

Jadon Sancho has now played 15 consecutive matches without registering a goal or assist. In those 15 games, he has had just two shots on target.

The Sun now report that “Chelsea have started looking for yet more wingers – as they are planning for next season without both Jadon Sancho and Mykhailo Mudryk.”

What’s more, “Chelsea chiefs are ready to pay Manchester United £5m to back out of their agreement to sign one-time England winger Sancho.”

There has been some confusion on this topic as conflicting reports have suggested that Chelsea have also decided to follow through on their agreement to buy Sancho at the end of the season.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has spoken on the winger’s future and claimed he is happy with the player’s performance levels so far this season in spite of the lack of goal contributions.

There is a school of thought that Chelsea will sign the winger but intend to sell him right away with Borussia Dortmund, Italian clubs and Wolverhampton Wanderers all touted as possible destinations.

What is clear is that he has no future at United, even if Chelsea decide to renege on their commitment to buying the England international.

There have been reports that the Old Trafford dressing room has no appetite for a return of the player.
