Cavani issues injury update to cause further concern for Man Utd boss Solskjaer

Edinson Cavani has announced he is undergoing treatment for a recurring tendon injury.

The striker bagged his first goal of the season for Manchester United in their 3-0 win over Tottenham last month but was forced to miss the 2-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.

Cavani has now been left out of Uruguay’s latest squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Bolivia as a result and will now use the international break to recover.

The former PSG star has revealed the injury has been ongoing since pre-season and more concerningly, it’s not clear if the issue will clear up in time for United’s next match against Watford on Saturday, November 20.

The striker told local media: ‘At a given moment when you see you are not making progress, you have to take a decision in order to get better.

‘That is the situation I am in. Before the start of the season, I had pain in a posterior tendon, which kept me out for a couple of weeks.

‘I got back into the United team bit by bit, and returned to the national side, but still always had a bit of pain.

‘This is the sorts of thing you face as a professional footballer, but I hoped it would disappear.

‘I was getting better, but after our game against Tottenham, the situation began to deteriorate.

‘Muscular injuries are pretty difficult to deal with, and I decided to have some treatment done to solve the problem.

‘All it was doing was harming my team – whether Manchester United or Uruguay.

‘I want to recover as quickly as possible, so I can be fully fit and regain my place in the national side.

‘The treatment requires me to rest for three or four days after the session.

‘Then I can resume normal activities, and restart the treatment a few days later.’

The news will come of particular concern to Solskjaer with the Norwegian also discovering the extent of Paul Pogba’s injury today.

The Frenchman picked up a thigh injury on duty with France during training and initial estimates from the France camp suggest the 28-year-old will be out for between six and eight weeks.
