Carrick in contention for back-to-back monthly honours on the back of promising run – official

Manchester United interim head coach Michael Carrick has another personal honour within reach after a productive February in the Premier League. An official club update published on Thursday confirms Carrick has been shortlisted for the Premier League’s February Manager of the Month award. The recognition follows an unbeaten run across the month. Three wins plus one draw are credited to United in February. The former midfielder was also January’s winner. This puts him in the mix to claim the prize in successive months. Unbeaten February returns United began the month with a home win. They edged Fulham 3-2 at Old Trafford, courtesy of goals from Casemiro, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko. Another match in M16 brought another three points. Tottenham Hotspur were beaten 2-0, with finishes from Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes. The away trip to West Ham United ended level. The Red Devils earned a 1-1 draw at the London Stadium, thanks to a late strike from Benjamin Sesko. February then ended with a 1-0 victory over Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Sesko scored the winner in this tie. In addition, the Everton game marked the men’s first ever appearance at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. These four fixtures, unbeaten from start to finish, are what put Carrick in the running for this latest nomination. Rivals for the prize The Wallsend native’s fellow candidates are Keith Andrews of Brentford, Pep Guardiola of Manchester City, and Arne Slot of Liverpool. Guardiola is the only one out of the other nominees whose side also avoided defeat during the period. Despite Wednesday’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle United at St. James’ Park ending United’s unbeaten run under Carrick, the ex-Spurs man is still viewed as the figure who has transformed the mood around Old Trafford. Voting closes on Monday 9 March at 12:00 GMT. Featured image by James Fearn/Getty Images The Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade.
