Bruno Fernades thinks it’s time for Manchester United to ‘change something’ after Saturday’s draw against Everton.
United went into half-time with a 1-0 lead thanks to Anthony Martial’s well-taken goal on the stroke of the break, but Everton were finding joy when counter-attacking and it was no surprise when they transitioned to create an opening for Andros Townsend.
Despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer making multiple changes – Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Paul Pogba entered the field from off the bench – United looked devoid of any real creativity and their play was pedestrian as they attempted to find a match-winner.
While Ronaldo scored a dramatic goal deep into stoppage time against Villarreal in midweek to secure the win for United, there were to be no surprise late twists in the script at Old Trafford on this occasion and United were forced to share the points.
Fernandes reflected on the performance after the game and admitted it might be time for change at United.
“I think we played really well first-half, created a lot of chances,” Fernandes told MUTV.
“Second half we slow it down, once again we make that mistake. We have to learn. We have to carry on now. We have to be frustrated because of the result, of course, but we have to come back after the international break and be ready for the next games.
“A really bad corner from me. We don’t close well enough on the outside of the box. We don’t clear the ball. We don’t make a foul. Many mistakes, starting with my corner – we have to do better next time.
What did you make of United against Everton? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. “We have to do something, we have to change something because something is not working to concede so many counters. That is about us players inside of the pitch doing something, it’s not about someone else.”
“It’s not good enough, we should have more points. We have to look forward now to what we can do from now to the end of the season. We have to carry on and fight for everything.”
