Brentford are confident that Ivan Toney will sign a new deal with the club, despite speculation linking the forward with an exit.
Toney’s current contract is set to expire in 2025 and the Bees are hopeful of persuading the 27-year-old to sign terms on a new deal. Toney is a reported transfer target for a number of Premier League rivals, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs all said to be interested in a potential deal.
Brentford have insisted that Toney will not be sold in the January transfer window and talkSPORT have revealed that the Bees are confident the striker will put pen to paper on a new deal in west London.
Toney has not featured this season as he serves an eight-month ban for breaching the FA’s gambling rules, but will be free to resume his career in January.
Any new deal with Brentford could contain a release clause, according to 90min. A new contract would protect Toney’s value for Brentford as he approaches the final year of his deal, while the forward would receive an increase on his current wages.
However, Toney is likely to demand a release clause in any new deal, with the forward harbouring ambitions of competing in Europe.
Toney has scored 32 goals in 66 appearances for Brentford in the Premier League and made his senior England debut against Ukraine in March.
Speaking about a potential exit for the forward, Brentford boss Thomas Frank said his players would be allowed to leave the club for ‘the right price’, but insisted the Bees view Toney as one of the best numbers nines ‘in the world’.
“If they build well with us on this journey, and now prove they are good enough to go to the top clubs, but for the right price,” Frank told Sky Sports.
“Yes, it does apply to him too (Toney), I understand why there are a lot of rumours out there.
“For me, as a striker and a number nine, I don’t see many others better than him in the world.”
