The draw was a blow to Erik ten Hag’s side since these points are crucial if they want to close the gap with Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur at the top of the table.

Here is the story of the two halves in full:

First-half: Manchester United fail to stick to their attacking plans

The visitors started the game confidently and it was a routine start for them as they comfortably passed the ball in the opening 15 minutes.

The Bees weren’t getting any solid chances until the 20th minute when they started to show a glimpse of their attacking threat via corner kicks.

Mathias Jorgensen’s close header highlighted the intense pressure on United’s defenders. Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane did well to control much of the danger.

The host continued to our pressure as Ivan Toney hit the post via Yoane Wissa’s precise through ball. Jorgensen again hit the top of the bar as Mathias Jensen’s deliveries gave more headaches to the Red Devil’s defenders.

They had to contain Brentford’s sudden surge of attacking moves and start pressuring them by making more chances of their own.

However, the Danish ace slipped and the shot was saved by Bees shot-stopper Mark Flekken via a reflex save. But, the host’s silence didn’t last long as Toney and Wissa volleyed wide. Things went worse for United as Lindelof was subbed off due to an injury.

Varane was substituted for a similar reason in the first half. It was a rather frustrating evening for the club as they already dealing with injury crises.

Lisandro Martinez started for the first time in over two months but he was unable to guide his side to a win. Moments later Toney had put the ball in the net through Bryan Mbeumo’s superb curler. However, he was deemed offside by a very fine margin.
