Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is the current favourite to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United, should the Norwegian lose his job. While many United fans have reservations over his potential arrival due to his Liverpool links, he could win them over with two exciting signings.

Wilfried Ndidi and Youri Tielemans have been staples of Leicester’s continued rise under Rodgers – culminating in last season’s FA Cup win.

Both players started in midfield, and Tielemans scored as Leicester knocked United out en route to that historic triumph.

But with Leicester slumped in 12th in the Premier League and Rodgers linked with a switch to Old Trafford, the club could soon face a battle to keep the duo.

And Rodgers could make one of his first acts as Red Devils boss solving the blatant midfield problem with Ndidi and Tielemans.

Neither would come cheap, with transfermarkt valuing Ndidi at £54million and his Belgian counterpart at £49.5m.

But both players would immediately fit into the middle of the park, especially if Donny van de Beek forces a January exit and Paul Pogba leaves on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Solskjaer’s continued trust in Fred and Scott McTominay despite consistently-disjointed performances has been a significant catalyst in his mass criticism.

The Foxes pairing would be an upgrade on both, so it’d be a move that would undoubtedly put Rodgers into United fans’ good books.

The Northern Irish boss has recently heaped praise on Tielemans, in particular, after an impressive individual start to the 2021/22 campaign.

He said: “I think he’s [Tielemans] progressing well; he’s doing very well. He came in January 2019, and he has progressed into one of Europe’s top midfielders.

“He’s only going to get better. [He’s] an incredible professional. His mindset is to work at the highest level. He’s progressing, and that’s what you want to see in your players.

“It will come with even more experience, even more games. He’s one of the best professionals I’ve ever worked with.

“His job is to create goals and score goals, but he’s proven himself to battle physically in the league. He’s really worked on that aspect of his game.

“If you look across the board in terms of ideal footballers, being mentally tough, being intelligent, having bravery, having quality, he ticks every one of those boxes. At 24 years of age, he’s a brilliant player. He is so efficient in games.”

Ndidi and Tielemans would undoubtedly go a long way in improving the current situation at Old Trafford.

And both midfield maestros would likely be interested in a switch, especially if Leicester miss out on European football this season.
